NYC sports club Dynamo has announced it will close and reopen as an independent soccer club, as the club gears up for a year-long relaunch.

The move comes after the New York Yankees moved its home game against the Chicago Cubs from Yankee Stadium to Brooklyn Park, which the team also owns, and the move of the Knicks to Brooklyn and the Yankees to Yankee Stadium.

The NYC-based team said it will “focus on a long-term, strategic approach” to its future.

The new owners of the club have “made an investment in the club that will be long-lasting”, the announcement said.

“We want to make it clear that we are not going to allow the city to define what our future is,” the club said.

The team said that it has already started planning its next steps, and will work with the New Yorkers to “deliver a new dynamic experience”.

“We will continue to build on our history and our fans and we look forward to seeing what new challenges and opportunities we will face in the coming years,” it said.
