Barely a month in the lives of a Bengaluru football player has left the team’s academy, but for Sanjay “Barendi” Jha, the journey has been an incredible one.
The 19-year-old is playing for the first team and is the only non-sportsman to play in the Bengaluru Football Academy.
He had just turned 17 when the first-team squad was formed, but has already earned the trust of his team-mates.
“I’m learning, I’m getting better and better,” he told NDTV.
“But for me, the first thing that is going to happen is to play football.
I’m not sure when that will happen, but I am sure that it will happen sooner or later.”
For the past three years, the young player has been spending time with his family and friends in Bengaloura, his home town.
“It’s like a normal home, but it’s a bit more quiet,” he said.
“Everyone’s a fan, even the team-mate that’s a little older.
We just have to do what we’re supposed to do and enjoy the football.”
But for us, we’re playing for a team called Barendi, who has just won the National Under-19 Championship, and they’re the only one in the league,” he added.
It’s the sport that I’m most passionate about and it’s what I want to be doing from now on,” he says.””
Football is my life and I love it.
It’s the sport that I’m most passionate about and it’s what I want to be doing from now on,” he says.”
I’ve had my dreams come true and my dreams were fulfilled,” he adds.
“A football academy is a dream come true.
I never imagined that it could happen to me.”
