SANTA MONICA, Calif.
— The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a man Sunday after a boat carrying two men went into the water off the coast of Santa Barbara, officials said.
The Coast Guard Cutter C.R. Smith rescued the man, identified as 35-year-old Roberto Martinez-Gonzalez, from the boat, the Coast Guard said in a statement.
The Coast Guard did not say how long the man was in the water.
The man was taken to a hospital in Santa Barbara and later died, the statement said.
