Olympic sport in New England has been given the green light to host the 2022 World Cups, with the first event scheduled for October.
The International Olympic Committee said the decision to hold the event at the U.S. Olympic Park in Boston was based on the positive results of the games in Rio de Janeiro.
The decision follows discussions between the two nations.
The IOC says that, after two days of deliberations, it now believes that the games will be successful in bringing together sports in a new way that will benefit all athletes, including those who play sport in the country that has been devastated by the pandemic.
IOC President Thomas Bach said in a statement that the vote in the IOC’s Board of Governors will be held this coming Monday.
The event will be in Boston, and the IOC expects to award the 2018 and 2022 tournaments to the U, U.K., Canada, France, Germany and Russia, the statement said.
“We are proud of our new host and are excited to have the games at the new Boston stadium,” Bach said.
The new games will begin in October.

The games will start in Boston in October, but Bach said it will not be the first time the IOC has played host to international sports.
The last Olympic Games in 2020 were in South Africa.
In addition to the games, Bach said that the IOC will host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in South Korea in December.
The Games will take place in the same stadium as the world’s largest sporting event, the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and will be played on a similar stage as the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which will be the second Olympic Games held in Japan.
Bach said the new IOC president, Thomas Bach, has made a commitment to bringing more athletes to New England.
The New England Patriots and New York Giants are among the athletes scheduled to be in attendance at the 2022 Winter Olympics, and Bach has said he would like to see more sports teams from the region participate in the games.
“I want more New England sports to come to Boston and to have a good time and a good place to do that,” Bach told reporters earlier this month.
